Tooth and Nail by Craig DiLouie is a solid zombie e-book. It took a while to get going but once it did I was hooked. I can’t say that I loved it, but I liked it and would definitely recommend it.
The Tooth and Nail zombie e-book is about a bioengineered rabies virus that scientists unwittingly unleash on the human population. The innocuous virus quickly mutates into a new super-aggressive “mad dog” strain that attacks the human brain creating a zombie host obsessed with infecting new victims. Mad dog infection is spread by saliva.
I like the way “sleeping” zombies seem to dream about their past lives which causes some of them to wimper and scream out in emotional pain. Unfortunately, these zombies, which are hosting the mad dog virus only have a life-span of about 5 days. And they can be killed like normal human beings—the brain does not have to be destroyed.
All in all I found the Tooth and Nail plot to be plausible (despite a few logical contradictions), which made it a bit more creepy than the average zombie theory which is based on superstition or relies on suspension of disbelief. My bottom line analysis is that Tooth and Nail is an enjoyable e-read.

I enjoyed reading After Life by Jaron Lee Knuth. It is well written and entertaining, but rather short. I enjoyed the classic character arcs as the main characters had to change in order to survive the zombie outbreak. Normally I criticize zombie ebooks for undeveloped characters, so it’s strange that my biggest criticism of After Life is that too much time was spent on character development and not enough on plot and action. I would have like to see more zombie battles and zombie attack scenarios. I read After Life on my wonderful Android phone with Amazon’s very well designed Android Kindle App.

I never thought I would say something like this about a zombie ebook, but Dead City by Joe McKinney has too much action. In fact, there is so much action that it became boring; literary desensitization to zombie violence, I guess.
Please don’t misunderstand, I like, even expect, copious violence in my zombie ebooks, but the pace and quantity of action in Dead City left very little room for story and plot. However, the main characters did have enough page time to develop interesting personalities.
Bottom line is that Dead City by Joe McKinney is a very readable zombie ebook, a good zombie ebook, but it would have been a lot better with less violence and more story.
